In the XXI century, health access, understood as a fundamental right for all children in the world, unfortunately still remains a utopia. Following our philosophy of collaboration with public schools in Ethiopia, IPI COOP has enabled a new medical clinic that provides coverage for all students at the Adengur center.

ESTABLISHEMENT OF A MEDICAL CLINIC AT THE ADENGUR SCHOOL PROJECT

Location: Woldya, North Wollo zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia

Description: Woldya with 55,000 inhabitants is the capital of North Wollo zone (1,500,000 inhabitants).

School Description: The school has 1000 students enroled. The school is located in one of the poorest neighborhood in the city.  16% are orphaned children, of whom half (around 9%) does not have a close relative to support them and are living alone on the streets.

Execution period: 2011

Status: Rehabilitation completed. Clinic up and running.

Beneficiaries: 1250

Many school students have no chance of receiving the appropriate medical care when needed

IPI COOP has rehabilitated a school room as an oupatient clinic.

In the clinic, a nurse works all day to provide pediatric ambulatory aid when needed by any student of the school. She also contributes to the health training program that is organized in the school.

An agreement has been subscribed with Woldya general hospital where all children who are severely ill or need further diagnostic tests and a pediatric expertize opinion are referred.

Currently all running costs are assumed by IPI COOP

Sustainability: The objective is that the clinic is self sustainable in the medium term. For this reason various ways are being explored between IPI and the school to make this possible.
